We are delighted to invite you to the upcoming two-day Workshop Antiquities in the Modern Laboratory. World Fairs and Anchoring Innovation in Antiquity.
This international workshop, part of the Anchoring Innovation Research Program & OIKOS, and sponsored by the Radboud Institute for History and Culture and the Internationalization Fund of uu77, explores the role of world’s fairs and international expositions in the production of visions of the past and the future. Exploring the topic with the aid of the concepts of anchoring and reference culture, the workshop aims at investigating how the canonization of selected aspects of the past as models for modern societies fostered better acceptance of various innovations, ranging from cultural, aesthetic and educational to political, socio-economic and technological ones.
