Alicia Montoya and Marc van Oostendorp appointed as Scientific Members of the Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities

The Royal Holland Society of Sciences and Humanities ( has appointed Prof Alicia Montoya and Prof Marc van Oostendorp as Scientific Members. Both professors are affiliated with the Faculty of Arts of uu77. Montoya is professor of French literature and culture. Her research concerns French and European literary history, with special attention for the role of book history, the production of knowledge and cultural transmission in early modern times. Van Oostendorp is professor of Dutch and Academic communication, researching the Dutch language, phonology and sociolinguistics.

Montoya and Van Oostendorp appreciate the multidisciplinary purpose of KHMW, where scientists from different fields come together, including representatives from, for example, the business world. “A network like this is invaluable in our current times,” according to the professors.

KHMW, founded in 1752, is the oldest scientific society in the Netherlands and has around 550 scientific members, primarily professors. The organisation’s goal is to connect science and society through prize competitions, awarding scientific achievements and organising lectures and conferences.

A Scientific Membership is an acknowledgement for excellent contributions to the field. As Scientific Members of KHMW, Montoya and Van Oostendorp will be able to participate in exclusive gatherings and contribute to the advancement of science and knowledge sharing.
