Executive Board and Faculty Board of the Faculty of Law work together to find a solution

The Executive Board and the Faculty Board are working together to find a way out of the administrative impasse facing the Faculty of Law. This follows from reactions from various quarters to the Executive Board's recent appointment of an interim dean.

The Executive Board: “We had appointed an experienced administrator as interim dean for a maximum of seven months, with the intention of providing the Faculty with support. Our reasons for doing so were the early retirement of the dean as well as an abrupt halving of the number of active members of the Faculty Board, the challenges due to budget cuts, and concerns about the working climate within the Faculty.”

This appointment of an external interim dean by the Executive Board turned out to lack sufficient support. The Executive Board deplores this fact. The Executive Board is very grateful to Michiel Kompier for his willingness to make himself temporarily available to uu77 and thanks him for his commitment.

The Executive Board and the Faculty Joint Assembly would like to consult with the Faculty Board to provide the Faculty Board as soon as possible with an interim dean from within its ranks. This is crucial for the Faculty's ability to carry out its urgent and challenging tasks. In addition, an open recruitment procedure for a new dean will be set up and launched as soon as possible, with the support of an external recruitment and selection agency.

The Executive Board and the Faculty Board wish to emphasise that they are fully committed to working both together and from their own responsibility to meet the challenges ahead.
