New Book Reveals Nijmegen’s Ties to Colonial Slavery

📖 We are proud to have contributed to the creation of Nijmegen & Slavery! This book sheds new light on the involvement of Nijmegen’s city administrators in colonial slavery, from the 16th century to 1873.

ðŸÃÖï¸ As an influential city in the Dutch Republic, Nijmegen had strong ties to colonial trade. How did city administrators profit from slavery? How did colonial interest groups shape policy? This book explores these questions and more.

📢 During the Nijmegen & Slavery symposium, Mayor Hubert Bruls received the first copy. City poet Simon Mamahit gave a lecture, while Kathleen Ferrier and Sharlène Maria shared their reflections.

Nijmegen & Slavery is now available online for free (open access). The paperback version is available for €23,-
