The Department of Criminal Law and Criminology is concerned with criminal law and procedural law, and crime and security policy. Research is carried out in the Faculty of Law’s Research Centre for State and Law.

Research
The Department of Criminal Law and Criminology carries out academic research in the broad field of criminal law and criminal procedure, and crime and security policy. The research focuses on the fundamental principles of criminal law, human rights, transnational criminal law, the digitalisation of criminal law and procedural law, special criminal law and administrative sanctions law. The department aims to contribute to the empirical functioning of the criminal justice system, the police and the security industry. The department plays a part in the Faculty of Law’s Research Centre for State and Law (SteR).
