RITHA Practitioner training

In this RITHA training you will gain insight into identifying and guiding the sometimes not yet visible abilities and educational needs of gifted children, adolescents and adults within care or education settings.

    General

    What is the RITHA Practitioner training?

    For more than 25 years, uu77 has offered the training to become an ECHA Specialist in Giftedness. The course has been intensively developed and evolved within the RadboudCSW into a state-of-the-art course in the field of giftedness: the Radboud International Training on High Ability, or RITHA for short. This training can be followed online or 'blended' in Nijmegen (uu77), Eindhoven (in collaboration with RINO Zuid), Amsterdam (in collaboration with ). 

    Within the RITHA Practitioner program you will follow three educational blocks in twelve months on the fundamentals and core themes of and scientific insights about giftedness. You will also learn the skills needed to translate science into practice. Upon completion, you may decide to develop further within the RITHA Specialist program. 

    Upon completion of this training:

    • You are familiar with the latest scientific insights in the field of giftedness;
    • You are able to identify (sometimes not yet visible) possibilities and educational needs of the gifted and highly gifted;
    • Do you have evidence-based skills to guide (highly) gifted children, adolescents or adults;
    • Have new contacts and have expanded your professional network;
    • You will receive the RITHA Certificate (uu77) and the ECHA Certificate ();
    • Will be able to advance to the RITHA Specialist program

    Training location and language of instruction

    The programmes scheduled in 2025 in Amsterdam and Nijmegen have an open registration and will be taught in Dutch. Abroad we work with international partners and institutes to offer the RITHA Training as an in-company training.     Admission requirements

    • A completed college or university education or an equivalent level of thinking and working ability;
    • A compelling motivation
    • A job in education, educational guidance or care or within a professional environment where giftedness and/or talent development is a theme;
    • Proficiency in English 
      (For programmes taught in Dutch passive reading skills are required)

    Structure of the training

    The RITHA Practioner program in Nijmegen, Eindhoven, Rotterdam and Amsterdam consists of 80% online meetings and 20% on-site seminars. The program consists of three blocks and has a duration of 12 months. The program concludes with a Field Study. The study load is 420 hours (15 EC), where we assume an average study load of 10-12 hours per week.

    Prof. dr. Lianne Hoogeveen

    Prof. dr. Lianne Hoogeveen, as endowed professor of Identification, Support and Counseling of Talent at uu77, is involved in both initial and postgraduate education on giftedness. For example, she is a lecturer in the Department of Pedagogical Sciences, and she is the programme director of the Radboud International Training on High Ability (RITHA). She also conducts scientific research in the field of educational adjustments for students with (very) high (intellectual) abilities. As a researcher, she is affiliated with the Behavioural Science Institute (BSI) of uu77 and collaborates in research and education with colleagues from various domestic and foreign universities. As a GZ-psychologist, she counsels and treats children, adolescents and adults at . 

    prof. dr. A.J.M. Hoogeveen (Lianne)

    People should not be labeled as "gifted. The question should always be: what does this particular child, adolescent or adult need and how can we best provide it? For example, what are the needs of a child who has above-average complex thinking? We need professionals who are able to recognize the talent who are under-challenged and then know how best to deal with that

    Sven Mathijssen

    Dr. Sven Mathijssen is the Vice Programme Director of the International Advanced Master in Gifted Education and Care and the Radboud International Training on High Ability (RITHA). He is also the Editor-in-Chief of Talent, a popular-scientific journal on giftedness, and a general committee member of ECHA. He studied Psychology (Child & Adolescent track) at Tilburg University, interning at Psychology Practice Frumau (now PPF Centrum voor Hoog Ontwikkelings Potentieel) and the Center for the Study of Giftedness (). After graduating, he worked as a developmental psychologist at CBO Talent Development until 2019. As an external PhD candidate at Tilburg University, Sven analyzed human figure drawings of highly intelligent children. His ongoing research focuses on developing a screening instrument to identify talents and educational needs of young children (4-6 years) requiring services beyond the standard curriculum.
