Day course Dutch for intermediates I (A2-B1)

This course for intermediates give you a solid foundation in the Dutch language. This course is the third in a series that prepare you for the Staatsexamen NT2 (state exam in Dutch as a second language), programme II.

What will the course bring you?

  • have simple conversations on familiar topics;
  • understand the main points of simple texts;
  • formulate personal opinions in a simple way;
  • write texts and emails on familiar topics.

The main objective of the course is to learn to communicate in Dutch. All skills are developed: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. To this end, attention is given to such matters as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Reading and writing skills are mostly practiced in the time allotted for self-study. Attention is also given to Dutch habits and customs.

Who is this course for?

This course is a good fit for you if you have completed the Beginners II (A1-A2) course or achieved a similar level. You don't mind several hours of self-study per week.

Pre-requisites to follow this course

  • You have followed 5 years of secondary education in your country of origin

Are you integrating in Dutch society? Make sure to read the information about the civic integration programme and DUO loan.

Certificate

You receive a certificate upon completion of the course, provided you have attended at least 80% of the classes.

Final level: The course will take you from level A2 to halfway level B1 (CEFR). After the intermediate course, you continue with the course Dutch for intermediates II (B1).

What will you learn in this course?

You will learn Dutch to intermediate level B1 in Part 1 of this intermediate course. This class focuses on the different skills: reading, listening, speaking and writing.

Reading

You can understand short texts that consist mainly of high-frequency, colloquial or work-related language. You can understand short personal letters.

Listening

You can understand the main points when listening to familiar information when speakers speak clearly and at a slightly slower pace. The information relates to your work, school, leisure, etc. You can understand the main information of many radio or TV programmes on current affairs or familiar topics, when the speech is relatively slow and clear and the vocabulary contains high-frequency words.

Conversations and speaking

You can communicate in the majority of everyday situations. You can participate in conversations on familiar topics and everyday activities without preparing (e.g. family, hobbies, work, travel and current events).

You can connect expressions to describe experiences, events and plans for the future in a simple way. You can give your opinion and substantiate it.

Writing

You can write simple, coherent texts on familiar topics or topics of personal importance, such as plans for the future or a past experience. You can write simple personal or work-related letters, such as to give someone advice or to transfer work.
