Language course Ukrainian for absolute beginners (halfway to A1)

Would you like to learn Ukrainian and do you as yet have no knowledge of the language, writing and culture? If you are an absolute beginner, the Ukrainian halfway to A1 language course is a great first step.

    General

    It is currently not possible to register for this course. New dates will be announced as soon as possible.

    After completing this Ukrainian language course, you will be able to:

    • understand simple words, expressions and sentences;
    • ask and answer simple, short questions;
    • follow a simple conversation;
    • write simple, short sentences about personal matters;
    • read and write the Cyrillic alphabet.

    The course focuses primarily on verbal communication, as well as reading, listening and writing skills. You will also learn more about Ukrainian culture.

    To receive a Radboud in’to Languages certificate, you need to attend 80% of the classes.

    This course will help you on your way to language level A1. After completing this course, you can continue with the course Ukrainian A1 to complete the A1 level.

    Approach and content

    Ukrainian is spoken as much as possible during classes, with English as the supporting language. This means you can take this course if you do not speak Dutch. 

    You should count on about three to four hours of individual study per week.

    What do the classes cover?

    Skills

    • The Cyrillic alphabet: reading and writing
    • introducing yourself, asking and answering how you are doing, your profession
    • giving brief information about your family
    • saying and asking where someone comes from
    • counting to 100, saying how old you are and your phone number

    Grammar

    We cover a range of topics in the Ukrainian halfway to A1 course, including grammar:

    • introduction to a few of the seven Ukrainian case names
    • introduction to the three genders of nouns
    • nouns (I, you = я, ти,...) in the Nominative, in Accusative (мене, тебе) and Dative (мені, тобі) cases
    • conjugating adjectives according to gender in the Nominative and singular/plural (новий, нова, нове, нові)
    • introduction to conjugating words in the present
