Bioreactors

The bioreactor facility hosted at the department of Microbiology of Radboud Institute for Biological and Environmental Sciences is used for the cultivation of microorganisms and microbial communities from the environment.

The facility includes two fully equipped bioreactor labs with more than 40 dedicated bioreactor systems in operation for fully controlled aerobic and anaerobic cultivation and enrichment of microorganisms.

Ecological Microbiology

RIBES microbiologists have discovered several 'impossible' micro-organisms over the years. The bioreactors have been instrumental in these discoveries. The reactors contain the optimal conditions for growth and the conditions and population development can be monitored in detail over many months.

Contact and access

Both internal and external researchers can make use of the facility. Please contact Guylaine Nuijten for more information. The facility is located in the Huygens building.
