Since existing large-scale studies on EU regulation only count the number of laws adopted without accounting for their actual contents, this project set out to provide a more fine-grained measurement. The scope of this project is:
- to develop software scripts that download data on EU law and the laws themselves (some 180,000 Directives, Decisions and Regulations), and that classifies sentence by sentence whether it is an obligation, and to whom.
- to make those scripts and the data generated by it publicly available
- to analyse developments in the nature of EU rules
The project was kick-started as a collaboration between uu77 and the Netherlands eScience Centre.
