Legal support in the event of claims

Open access publishing of scientific publications is part of a culture of open science and falls under our social responsibility. If as a result you become a party to a legal case, uu77 will fully support you. It guarantees legal support and payment of the resulting costs and it will immediately take over any claims.

If a publisher or another rights holder contacts you about a publication, please contact the open access service desk via openaccess [at] ubn.ru.nl (openaccess[at]ubn[dot]ru[dot]nl).

Conditions for automatic publishing in open access

• Short scientific works are scientific articles, articles in conference proceedings, stand-alone chapters in edited books and annotations to a court decision. Monographs and chapters in a monograph are not included. 
• Authors can be either corresponding or co-authors. Because it is your personal right, publications you have made together with others are also included in this procedure. In the interest of (future) collaboration, we recommend informing co-authors. Only publications published during uu77 employment are included.
• This only concerns publications based on research that has been fully or partially financed with Dutch public funds.
• The procedure is valid retroactively. Publications will be made public in phases, starting with the year 2023. Older publications can also be made public on individual request, provided staff capacity allows for it.
• In educational materials and commercial databases, only links are permitted to publications made public in this way. Copying the full text is not permitted. This is laid down in a disclaimer that precedes the text of the publication. Any claims arising from use in violation of this disclaimer do not fall within warranty of Dutch universities.
• The full text that is made public is the final, published version (also referred to as the publisher’s version or Version of Record - VoR).
• Publications for which no digital version is available cannot be made public according to this procedure. If desired, these publications can be supplied by the author.

Early open access

More and more research funders are imposing open access conditions on researchers. In many cases, publications arising from funded research are expected to be made open access immediately, without embargo. The six-month embargo period applied in this procedure is not in line with this. To meet the conditions of research funders, a different route must be chosen.

Many journals offer the option of open access publishing through  with scientific publishers, without additional costs.

Sometimes it is possible to publish the post-print version (or the Author Accepted Manuscript) of an article public in a repository without an embargo.
