What is SMAP?
The Statistical and Methodological Advice Point (SMAP) is a service for (PhD) students from various programmes who have questions about processing and analyzing research data or interpreting results while performing their research.
SMAP does not offer support for theoretical questions, such as those related to research questions and hypotheses. We also do not provide support for questions about writing style. We do not review passages from a research report that are sent to us without a clearly formulated question.
The staff at SMAP are happy to assist you! Please note that they only have an advisory role. The final responsibility lies with you as a student and your supervisor/teacher.
Who is SMAP for?
SMAP is for students of the programs Pedagogical Sciences, Educational Sciences, PWPO, ALPO, and Psychology. Specifically, we offer support to students enrolled in one or more of the following courses:
- Pedagogical Sciences
- Bachelor thesis
- Pre-master thesis
- Master thesis
- Psychology
- RP2
- Bachelor thesis
- Master thesis
- Research Master
- Master thesis
We are also here for PhD students from Donders Centre for Cognition (DCC) and Behavioural Science Institute (BSI).
Support via Brightspace
Support from SMAP is provided via the renewed Brightspace page. All students enrolled in one of the aforementioned courses are automatically added to the Brightspace page. You can find this page under the Continuous tab.
Are you enrolled in one of the aforementioned courses but do not have access to the Brightspace page (for example, because you enrolled in a course later)? Or are you a PhD student from DCC or BSI? Then send an email to SMAPPWOPsych [at] ru.nl (SMAPPWOPsych[at]ru[dot]nl). Tell us your name, student number, and the course you are enrolled in, and a SMAP staff member will add you to the Brightspace page.
Support offerings on Brightspace
- Extensive manuals
Answers to frequently asked questions about mediation, moderation, and (logistic) regression analysis are described in extensive guides on the content page. - Email
If you cannot find the answer based on the manuals, you can personally address your question to one of our staff members. Usually, your question will be answered the same working day. Sometimes, during times of extreme busyness, the answer may take a little longer. - Consultation hour
If you have difficulty formulating your question concisely and clearly, or if your question is very complex, you can join our daily walk-in consultation hour (online or on campus). The current schedule of our staff and the link to the consultation hour can be found on our Brightspace page.
