Master's specialisationNeurobiology
Would you like to understand the brain from a multidisciplinary point of view? In the specialisation, you will study the brain across spatial scales, from molecule to whole human brains. Learn about the organisation and functioning of the brain.
Something for you?
- The neuroscience research at the uu77 covers all scales, from small (subcellular and single-cell processes ) to big (cognitive and behavioural processes) and covers different techniques, from experimental to big data analysis, computational modelling and advanced machine learning.
- You can perform your internships in one of Europe’s largest neuroscience institutes, the world-renowned Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (DI).
- The courses have a strong focus on research.
- The programme is tailored to your needs and is flexible.

What will you learn
In this two-year, English-taught multidisciplinary specialisation you will learn from behavioural, cellular, molecular and systems neuroscience. This will help you to learn the common ground that is necessary to communicate in a multi-faceted (research) team. A large part of the programme consists of two research internships that can be done at the Donders Institute, focusing on neuroscience.
Study programmeFuture career opportunities
With a multidisciplinary and forward-looking education at the cutting-edge of modern neurobiology, graduates have a wide range of options with positions in fundamental or translational research in various fields of neuroscience, positions in pharmaceutical or biomedical industry and positions in science management, policy, advisement, and communication. Several of our graduates chose the entrepreneurial path, bringing their knowledge into the market. It is possible to apply for a PhD position at uu77 or elsewhere. Many of our students successfully secured PhD positions.
Career prospectsResearch
At uu77, all branches of Neurobiology are accounted for, and strongly intertwined through Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour (DI). This unique combination of expertises is a real advantage for Neurobiology students: it gives you absolute freedom to develop your knowledge in your field of interest and a high profile network for your future career.
