The knowledge and data you work with every day are precious, so it’s vital you look after them carefully.
Information security: a matter for all of us
Although people often say “I have nothing to hide”, everyone has data that should not be made public, such as personnel files or annual appraisal forms, and you wouldn’t want this data to end up on the street.
We have three disciplines that work together centrally to protect you and the university 24/7 from criminal activities by both preventing and combating them. But how you use digital facilities and handle (paper) documents and privacy sensitive information is at least as important. What’s more, you may also encounter knowledge security issues.

Policy portal
The policy portal of the Information Security (IS) programme displays all the policies, reference procedures, guidelines and templates published by the IS programme. The documentation is available to uu77 staff via Teams. To access the portal, log in with your Radboud account and then submit an access request.
Information security
Information security is geared towards protecting all data and systems, where the aim is to make information available, incorruptible and confidential,and to prevent various threats such as hacks and viruses.
You can contact the Business Security Officer (BSO) of your faculty or organisational unit for advice and support on security risk classification, safe internet use, data classification (public/internal), device security, secure login procedures, protection against cyberattacks (e.g. phishing) and the implementation of security measures.
Privacy
Privacy is about protecting personal data, using personal information for legitimate reasons and protecting the individual rights of data subjects against unauthorised access.
If you have any questions relating to the handling of personal data, guidelines for collecting, storing and/or sharing personal data, the suspicion of a data breach, the use of tools compatible with privacy, the retention and destruction of personal data or the reviewing of data processing agreements, please get in touch directly with the contact from your own faculty, institute or organisational unit.
Knowledge security
Knowledge security concerns the undesired transfer of knowledge and technology, the covert influencing of education and research, and ethical issues.

The team provides advice, ensures alignment with other parts of the security policy, involves experts from other disciplines where necessary, and identifies risks and opportunities for international collaborations in research and education.
