In terms of open access, uu77 has already taken some important steps. This has been achieved through a combination of such initiatives as open access agreements with publishers, automatic open access availability of publications in the Radboud Repository, and support from, among others, uu77 Press. As a result, over 90% of uu77/Radboud university medical center articles are now available through open access. Despite this, open access will remain a key focus of the Open Science Programme due to the fact that the current publishing landscape is expensive, cluttered and insufficiently sustainable.
The main goal of the Open Access Working Group is to make open access publishing more sustainable, cheaper and easier for the researcher, so that the percentage of open access is increased and expanded to multiple types of publications.
What are we working on?
- Joining national and international initiatives, such as diamond open access.
- Clarifying the entirety of open access costs.
- Advising on open access/publication policy.
- Expanding green open access via the Radboud Repository, by further automating and streamlining the administration and workflow.
- Improving the efficiency of the existing support and training programmes, and expand these if need be, e.g. for alternative output formats such as preprints.
- Improving communication and information provision.
